Saturday morning before I have to head out the door to get to class, I thought I'd get another catch up post in and take a little detour from the Hawaii series. A little over a year ago, two of my favorite kids started their own nanobrewery, 2Kids Brewing, in Mira Mesa. About a month ago, they celebrated the beeriversary of their enterprise with a bang. It was quite the fête, complete with beer, cupcakes, and beer that was named for cupcakes.
8 tasters plus a commemorative glass - no wonder I was a little distracted from the actual photography bit. Another one of those experiences where one needs to not take anything (including this project) too seriously, but soak the experience all in.
There were some great brews - my favorites that I hadn't previously tasted were probably the Tea Time and Hulk Smash, both unexpected and refreshing. Tea Time was an English pale ale with rosehips, which could best be described as tea flavored... if tea were awesome and morphed into beer. Hulk Smash on the other hand, was a refreshing IPA - not the run of the mill in your face I'm going to hops you to death, but a different take on an IPA. Admittedly, I always go for the unique flavors, which happens to be what Rob and Sam are all about. And I can't make a trip to 2Kids without getting the Winning! stout - that is hands down, my favorite stout (and it's even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream). Even with school taking up my Saturdays, I'll schedule some Sunday treks down for growler fills and excellent conversation.
So, cheers to 2Kids, can't wait to see what's coming up next in the years to come!!
